NIK NUR IZZATI BT MUHAMAD 0134886685PETALING JAYA: Malaysian archers completed a Commonwealth Games test event at the newly-built Yamuna Sports Complex in New Delhi yesterday with a medal haul of 1-3-1.
Compound archer Mohd Zaki Mahazan delivered the gold, beating India’s Chungda Sherpa 7-3. He combined with Lang Hong Keong and Mohd Khairuddin Asah to take the team silver, losing 232-239 to England.
The other two silver medals were won by the men’s and women’s recurve teams.
Cheng Chu Sian, Fazli Hisyam Fauzi and Arif Farhan Ibrahim Putra were denied the men’s team gold by India, losing 211-218 in the final. The women’s team of S. Anbarasi, Noor Aziera Taip and Beatric Wong Zhia also failed to get the better of the hosts, losing 190-204.
The women’s compound trio of Nor Rizah Ishak, Nor Hayati Al-Madihah Hashim and Nur Hidayah Abdul Latip defeated Scotland 217-209 in the shoot for the bronze after a defeat by England in the semi-finals.
In the men’s individual recurve, Olympian Chu Sian was beaten 0-6 by India’s Tarundeep Rai 0-6 in the semi-finals and he lost 4-6 to another Indian, Rahul Banerjee, in the shoot for the bronze.
The Malaysian archers were among the competitors from 10 countries who competed in the event to test the preparedness of the organisers and the facilities for the sport ahead of the Commonwealth Games in October.
